How to Clean 14K Gold Jewelry at Home
A step-by-step routine for cleaning gold jewelry without damaging plating, stones or settings.
Check the construction first
Identify whether the piece is solid gold, vermeil or plated, and note any porous or glued stones. When uncertain, use only a soft dry cloth.
Use a gentle process
For compatible solid-gold pieces, use lukewarm water, a small amount of mild cleaner and a very soft brush. Rinse briefly and dry completely with a lint-free cloth.
Know when to stop
Loose stones, bent prongs, deep discoloration or damaged plating should be handled by a jeweler rather than scrubbed at home.
